“Autism … offers a chance for us to glimpse an awe-filled vision of the world that might otherwise pass us by,” Dr. Colin Zimbleman, Ph.D.

What is Autism?

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences. We now know that there is not one autism but many types, caused by different combinations of genetic and environmental influences.

The term “spectrum” reflects the wide variation in challenges and strengths possessed by each person with autism.

Do you suspect your child may have Autism or other developmental disabilities?

Having concerns is a natural part of parenting, however, if those concerns become questions about your child’s development it is important to act. If you suspect your child may show some signs of autism, getting a screening shouldn’t wait until they’re older, the sooner they begin to receive services the better. Studies have shown that early intervention improves outcome for those who receive it. ASD is typically diagnosed by a clinical psychologist. While a pediatrician, neurologist, or psychiatrist may make a diagnosis; insurances typically require specific testing in order to receive coverages for services.

So, what now? The first step to improving outcomes for individuals on the spectrum is ABA therapy. Schedule an intake session with your preferred ABA clinic. At Spectrum House, we are happy to provide tours of our centers to give you a chance to see our locations and ask questions without any commitment. While ABA therapy is the only proven intervention for ASD, other services such as Speech/Language Therapy and Occupational therapy can be extremely beneficial in addition to ABA. Contact us today to find out which Spectrum House locations provide these services for your convenience.
